Royals victorious over Ponoka

Sep. 08, 2025

The Edmonton Royals welcomed the Ponoka Stampeders to Confederation Arena Sunday night for an inter league exhibition game. The Royals opened the scoring in the 1st period courtesy of a Hunter Delf Power play goal. Kaleb Haskey later on scored his first of the preseason to make it 2-1 for the Royals at the end of the first.

In the second period, the Royals began to show their offensive prowess. Michael Borrelli potted his third of the preseason early in the second period, Kai Stothart joined in on the action potting his first of the preseason. Jaxen Davison continued to stay hot by netting two in the period, and Royals rookie defensemen Owen Howes scored his first of the preseason on the power play to make it 7-2 and the Royals never looked back.

New Royals netminder Dawson Ringuette stopped 12 of 13 shots he faced. Royals rookie Luke Kristiansen relieved Ringuette at the 9:06 mark of the second period and only surrendered a single Ponoka goal in route to the victory.

The Royals finish their exhibition schedule perfect with a 2-0-0 record out scoring their opponent 12-3. The Royals will have a week of practice and also make final cuts before their regular season opener on the road September 12th as they take on the Sherwood Park Knights at Randy Rosen Rink. Puck drop goes at 8:00 PM.
